IMPACT GRASSES UPDATEAs the New Year approaches so does the warmer weather and this is great for growing grasses. We have been working hard to make the most of this great growing weather and early next year will see large quantities of your favourite Dianella lines come available. Stock of these favourites like Breeze, Little Jess and Little Rev have been good and the demand for such lines has seen them racing out the door. We have increased numbers and next year will see us with great quantities all year round Lomandra Tropic Belle has been another plant that has been selling and performing well. Along with Katrinus and Katie Belles, we have these plants all year round and looking great. Not only do we head into the new year in good shape with the OzBreed lines but we also have great numbers of common varieties, both wetland and dryland available for sale. With big commercial projects calling for these in large numbers we have made sure that we are one step ahead at all times, right through all production cycles As well as growing the proven favourites we have also taken on board 2 new lines which we believe will do well. Lomandra ‘Shara’ and Leperonia ‘Twizzler’. These plants are profiled below: Lomandra fluviatillis Shara™
‘Shara’ with its fine leaf and slightly blue grey tones is a great alternative to Lomandra ‘Tanika’ Growing 40cm x 50 cm ‘Shara’ is an extremely versatile Lomandra tolerating drought, frost to -5° and humid conditions. ‘Shara’ performs well in mass plantings, borders and as a foliage contrast in full sun or moderate shade in a wide variety of soil types. This plant is maintenance free, tolerant to phytophera and will tolerate periodic wet feet. ‘Shara’ is a profuse flowering, low growing, tidy and tough lomandra is a great addition to landscapes and the answer to the problem of what to use instead of ‘Tanika’. Leperonia articulata ‘Twizzler’™
Twizzler with its twisted, glaucous reed like foliage and contrasting small conical seed heads makes an unusual and striking plant for constructed water features, ponds, wetlands, bogs and ornamental containers. Growing from 1 to 1.3 metres x 40cm to 60cm in full sun or partial shade this normally wetland native plant will grow in dry conditions, but proportionally smaller, as long it receives occasional watering in summer. Twizzler is a maintenance free plant and will reach its full potential when planted in moist to wet soils and in water to 200mm deep. It will grow well in most areas but inland will need protection from heavy frost and coastally exposed seaside aspects. Remove old foliage every 3 to 5 years and encourage new growth with an application of a slow release fertilizer. |
