STAFF EVENT - MELBOURNE CUP DAY

Melbourne Cup 1.jpg

Melbourne Cup Day at Alpine Nurseries, Dural, continues to get bigger with attendance numbers growing every year and this year was no exception.  The weather was hot and steamy but the caterers had plenty of cold beverages on ice and as usual the food was delicious with plenty of it.
The annual ‘Field Fashion and Hat Parade’ produced many unusual and fine creations but was eventually won by our very own Lynne from the ‘Trademart’. Lynne’s classic ‘Straw Boater’ was beautifully decorated with a selection of fine fillies and a bouquet of roses, but the piece de resistance was the Winners’ Arch on top and her very own Melbourne Cup winner standing proudly inside.

Alpine races had a fine line up this year, with riders coming from the Alpine Trademart, Production and from the Sales Office.

Race 1 was the ‘Box Head Handicap’and as soon as the riders donned their special caps and collected their whips, they rode their mounts home in brilliant style. After a bit of jostling and a fair bit of argy bargy,  the field finally spread out with the eventual winner being ‘Sam from Sales’ riding ‘Ben from Production’.

Melbourne Cup 2.jpgRace 2 on the day was the annual ‘Egg and Spoon Race’, this race saw ‘Peter the Driver’ disqualified after traces of Blu Tack was discovered on his spoon. The enquiry will also look into the possible connection between ‘Peter the Driver’ and‘Julie from the Trademart ‘after it was alleged that Julie  was seen with a large packet of  ‘Blu Tack’ in her hand prior to the commencement of the race. We will print the outcome of that enquiry in a later edition. Again, the field was a large one, but Race 2 was won finally by ‘Oliver from Production’.

It was a great day, and a good time was had by all, so a big thank you to the organizers and helpers on the day and we all look forward to a bigger and better day next year.
