Alstonville Update

Things have been progressing quickly at our Alstonville site with many more facilities and areas being completed ahead of a big spring.

The recently completed propagation facilities are now full of cuttings, in preparation for spring potting to meet the expected seasonal demand.  We plan to have more stock available than ever to satisfy your planting needs.

The new semi-mature area is now being filled with 75L and 100L trees expanding our ability to deliver instant impact trees for any landscape.  We are planning to further expand these areas over the coming year to take advantage of the favourable climate and longer growing season at Alstonville for many of our lines.

Also recently completed is a new area for growing on large numbers of 200mm (8”) and 300mm (12”) plants, as space at our Dural site is now at a premium due to continued growth.  A new potting machine is planned to increase efficiency and handle the increased production from the new facilities.

Irrigation of the new growing-on areas will be further enhanced with new media filters and sodium hypochlorite and acid injection equipment to treat recycled irrigation water stored within another newly installed 250,000L water tank.

Alpine is not only committed to state of the art facilities, but also to training and developing our growing numbers of staff.  We are providing training in Horticulture Certificate 4 to our staff in Alstonville in conjunction with Wollongbar TAFE.  This is the next step for the staff that completed the Certificate 3 last year.  Weekly sessions will be held in-house by a registered training provider.

We are just about to complete a revised master plan for development of the remaining sections of the property, taking account of the current picture on what is grown at Dural and Alstonville and trends in customer demand. We have a creek to cross and some topography challenges to overcome but we’re excited and keen to maintain the development momentum on this fantastic site.
