Alpine Potting Mix

We have recently re-evaluated whether we should continue with our longstanding practice of making our own potting mix or outsource to an external supplier.

Space at Alpine Dural is at a premium due to the growth in our sales, the quantity of stock we bring down from Alstonville and the increasing space allocated to our new loading dock and dispatch generally.

Alpine is one of few remaining nurseries that make its own mix and outsourcing has been resisted to date due to concerns about quality and consistency. Our increasingly competitive and specialized industry has now provided suppliers that largely overcome these concerns.

We asked several companies to quote for the supply of our mix based on quality, service and price considerations. In fact, we wanted to find a business partner that would work with us and understand our particular needs.

After a short but rigorous evaluation period we have decided to appoint Martins Fertilizers as our supplier. Martins is based in Yass and have invested heavily in recent years to build their capacity to supply bulk potting mix. Martins is a family company committed to excellent customer service and reliability and we have been impressed by their responsiveness in the tender process and the support offered by their references.

The change in our potting mix supply will happen quickly and the space previously taken up with composting mix will quickly be swallowed up with stock delivered from Alstonville. This will improve the speed of unloading the Alpine semi-trailers at our new dock and improve efficiency as well.

Quality remains our paramount value at Alpine and we will carefully monitor the new supply arrangement to ensure the quality of our potting mix is actively contributing to our supply of terrific plants.
