Comments, Features & Uses:

A compact dwarf form of Escallonia with glossy, dark green serrated leaves. Masses of terminal clusters of cerise pink flowers appear from Spring through to Autumn. Perfect for low hedges and edges and also suitable to be grown in tubs and containers on balconies and patios. Excellent choice for seaside gardens. Bird and butterfly attracting.

Naturally Occurring:                    

Parent plants originated from Chile but have been extensively hybridized.

Aspect:

Full sun to part shade.

Coastal Tolerance:                

Suitable for coastal plantings, tolerates salt laden winds.

Soil Requirements:

Tolerates a range of soils but prefers sandy, compost rich, well-drained soils.

Moisture Requirements:

Good regular watering required during establishment, and although drought hardy once established, will not tolerate excessively dry conditions.

Temperature Range:

Tolerates light frosts.

Maintenance and Fertiliser Requirements:

Prune lightly and remove spent flower heads. Can be pruned more heavily, but will risk abundance of flowers. Every six months apply a balanced slow release fertiliser with minor trace elements.

Pests and Diseases:

No specific pest or disease problems.

Spacing Guide:

0.2 to 0.3m apart.
