Comments, Features & Uses:

A vigorous small shrub with a rounded habit and stiff branches that give the plant a spikey appearance. The leaves are needle-like and dark green and deep crimson tube-shaped flowers appear in clusters from late Winter through to Spring. Popular choice for parks and gardens as a screen or barrier plant due to its prickliness, and may be trimmed to form an informal hedge. Also good in rockeries or as potted specimens.

A form of Grevillea rosmarinifolia.

Aspect:

Prefers an open sunny position and is suitable for inland regions as it prefers low humidity.

Coastal Tolerance:                

Not suitable for coastal plantings.

Soil Requirements:

  • Tolerates a range of soils
  • Prefers fertile, well-drained soils
  • Dislikes wet feet

Moisture Requirements:

Good regular watering required during establishment. Prefers drier conditions once established and very hardy.

Temperature Range:

Tolerates moderate frosts.

Maintenance and Fertiliser Requirements:

Responds well to annual pruning following flowering to maintain compact bushy growth. Grevilleas dislike high levels of Phosphorus but respond well to a light application of soluble Nitrogen fertiliser.

Pests and Diseases:

No specific pest or disease problems.

0.5m apart.
