Waterhousea floribunda
Weeping Lilly Pilly
Description
A medium to large evergreen tree, originating from the rainforests of Eastern Australia and now widely planted as an ornamental. It has a dense, oval crown and a beautiful weeping habit with lush, evergreen foliage. Older leaves are dark green, lance-shaped with a wavy edge, whilst the new leaves are much lighter in colour and may have a pale pink tinge. During Spring to mid Summer clusters of small, fluffy, fragrant white flowers appear. They are followed by pale pink/whitish berries. Prefers full sun and moist soils but will tolerate light shade and periods of dryness. Grows quickly when adequate water is given. Tolerant of urban conditions and performs well as a street tree or as a shade tree in parks. Also popular for screening or informal hedging. Prune to shape after flowering and apply a low phosphorus, slow release fertiliser.
