Trachelospermum jasminoides ‘Tricolour’

Mar 3, 2022

Trachelospermum jasminoides ‘Tricolour’ is a variegated groundcover version of the common star jasmine. Unlike its speedy growing cousin, it is a slow-growing variety. It has always been a favourite with landscapers as it is elegant, versatile and provides year-round foliage colour.

Trac ‘Tricolour’ as it is commonly called, has lovely, variegated leaves, ranging from cream to pink to green, with flecks of colour scattered between. In spring beautiful starry white flowers, typical to the star jasmine will be present, with the unmistakable fragrance which they are known for. Even when not in flower, its foliage provides an eye-catching display of colour in any landscape project.

Trac ‘Tricolour’ is most commonly seen as a ground hugging plant, it can be used as a border plant for containers or as a cascading plant down embankments. It prefers a semi-shaded position and well-drained soil. It can grow to around a metre wide and only 40cms in height. Once established it is an easy to care for plant and is drought tolerant.

Interestingly, this plant has had horticulturalists and nursery owners stumped as it has been known to be hard to grow in pots. At Alpine Nurseries, we’ve worked out the winning formula, and while we won’t give up our secret, we do grow these in-house and have them available in a number of sizes ranging from 140mm up to 300mm. Trachelospermum jasminoides are available through our Trademart, order via Alpine Online, or speak to one of our Account Managers to get them sorted for your next project sales@alpinenurseries.com.au
