Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum'
Red Leafed Maple
Description
Small dense tree with attractive year round colour. Leaves are 5 lobed, rich crimson red in spring, bronze green in summer and rich crimson red again in autumn. Flowers are inconspicuous and the winged seeds (samaras) are borne in pairs. Adaptable to a wide range of soil types but prefers a moist, well drained soil. Makes a stunning feature tree and is excellent in containers. Plant in a protected area as hot summer winds may stress the tree and scorch the leaves. Benefits from regular deep watering, especially in summer months. Mulch well to retain moisture.
