Alpinia nutans
Dwarf Cardamon, False Cardamon, Cinnamon Ginger
Description
An upright, rhizomatous, evergreen perennial which is actually a member of the ginger family and grown for its ornamental features. Best suited to tropical/subtropical climates. The shell-like creamy white flowers bloom prolifically on erect 30cm stalks in spring and the glossy, green foliage has a distinctive cardamon fragrance when brushed or rubbed. Good for under planting in tropical and informal gardens. Prefers rich, moist soil and regular watering during the warmer months. Allow to dry out slightly during winter. Hardy once established. Apply a general fertiliser following flowering, and remove spent flower stalks as required.
