Buxus microphylla var. microphylla
Dwarf Japanese Box, Korean Box
Description
A slow-growing, dwarf, evergreen shrub with dense, glossy dark green foliage and a slightly weeping habit. Ideal for low maintenance low hedges, borders, rockeries and pots. Does not have the rancid smell associated with Buxus sempervirens so well suited to courtyards and confined spaces. Grows in full sun to part shade but may turn lime green/yellow in strong sunlight. Tolerates a wide range of soils from mildly acidic to mildly alkaline (ie chalky) but needs good drainage. Requires minimal water once established and will tolerate dry conditions, but does prefer moist soils. Tolerates frost and heat and second line coastal exposure. Prune lightly to maintain shape.
