Gardenia augusta 'Florida'
Florist's Gardenia, Gardenia Florida
Description
A highly prized, small to medium shrub with glossy, dark green foliage and a rounded habit. The creamy-ivory double flowers, appearing from late Spring to Autumn, are intensely fragrant and much loved by florists and gardeners. It prefers a slightly acidic, compost enriched, moist soil in a warm sheltered position, protected from the extreme heat of the day. Too much shade though will inhibit flowering. Water well, especially in the warmer months when flowering occurs, and also apply mulch to keep the shallow roots cool. Fertilise regularly during the growing season. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape. Ideal as specimen shrubs, for hedging, in pots or as topiary standards.
