Hemerocallis Red
Daylily
Description
A hardy, long-lived perennial related to Liliums. Each plant produces several flower stalks with up to a dozen buds, each opening in turn as a showy red bloom. The lily-like flowers only last a day, giving rise to the name Daylily. Leaves are mid to dark green and strappy. They thrive in full sun and tolerate many types of soil, but do prefer a moist, fertile soil. Even though plump storage roots help in times of drought, the plants appreciate good watering to produce good numbers of quality flowers. Great choice for a splash of colour in Cottage or Tropical gardens, planted as single specimens or in swathes. Mulch well with shredded leaves or other light organic matter. A vigorous grower, good for weed suppression.
