Lomandra longifolia
Spiny-head Mat Rush, Spikey-headed Mat Rush, Basket Grass
Description
A large strappy leaved, clumping plant with green to bluish-green arching and weeping foliage and yellow, perfumed flowers that appear in Spring and Summer. It grows in full sun to semi shade and tolerates coastal winds and humidity. Once established, after the first season, it also flourishes in inland situations, withstanding temperatures as low as -10 C and frosts. A sandy loam or a free-draining clay loam are the preferred soil types and the plant can tolerate occasional flooding but dislikes regions with cooler Summers and wet Winters. This is a hardy landscape plant with many applications for both residential and commercial situations. Reduce foliage by half every 3-5 years, or as needed.
