Nandina domestica 'Nana'
Dwarf Sacred Bamboo, Dwarf Heavenly Bamboo, Dwarf Nandina
Description
A dwarf, rounded, compact form of Nandina with ferny, lime-green, bamboo-like foliage. Cooler temperatures induce red, orange and purple tinting of the foliage, and, because the plant is evergreen, this ornamental feature persists throughout Winter. The colour is best produced in hot, dry, exposed positions but the plant still grows well in cooler, shady positions. A wide variety of soils is tolerated but the species prefers a well-drained media. Mass plant to create an effective low hedge for garden borders or along pathways. Also good in perennial gardens to give structure and colour contrast, as well as in pots. Frost hardy and also accepting of coastal conditions. Fertilise and prune back in Spring to maintain appearances and encourage a fresh flush.
