Xanthorrhoea glauca
Grass Tree
Description
Grown for its grey green foliage and symmetrical form, this iconic Australian native requires a sunny position with excellent drainage. Xanthorrhoeas are long-lived and very slow growing. The blackened trunk will grow 1 - 2 cm a year. These plants are seed grown in a nursery setting instead of being removed from their natural environment, making them a sustainable option. The grey green foliage will develop to around 2 m producing a striking display of grass-like foliage that is highly useful in the landscape. Creamy white flowers on tall spikes can develop in spring. Avoid disturbing the sensitive root system when planting. Requires excellent drainage. Maintain regular watering after planting. Drought tolerant once established.
